We performed a dose-escalation study of bendamustine in 31 patients with multiple myeloma that had progressed after high-dose chemotherapy. Bendamustine 100 mg/m2 on days 1 and 2 per cycle was found to be the maximal tolerated dose. The overall response rate was 55% with a median progression-free survival of 26 (0-61) weeks.
